Everyone has had at least a moment of being happy. Then sometimes it goes away. Then it might come back when something “out there” brings happiness back to you. Kind of like the weather, maybe you just duck your head in and wait for good weather to come back and make you happy again.
Whatever you might think, there is more to it than meets the eye. How is it that some people like the rain and are happy then and others don’t like it and are unhappy when it rains. Hmmm. Wait a minute, it might be how you think about it, right? Then the inescapable conclusion is, what you think about something “decides” if you might be happy or unhappy about it. The thought comes first. Then your own state of being, how you move about in the world.
Sounds too simple, doesn’t it. Well, it does involve some other meaningful details. Most of us go about our daily lives really not knowing how much of the time we make those decisions without knowing it is happening in the background. Or, even more devious, we have decided that something is bad or wrong, and we have decided that we wouldn’t change our mind about that. There. Decided.
That only leaves one choice, being stuck with whatever is already going on inside your head. No other choice. But if, a big if, you can be watching quietly for those moments that those automatic decisions happen to you, there might be a chance, if you want, to decide differently.
Decide to be happy? That sounds way to simple. Maybe it is that simple after all. An outrageous thought. It would also involve you, dear reader, being responsible for your own happiness, rather whatever happens to you from the chaos in the outside world. Imagine being able to decide for yourself, no matter what, and you can adjust your own sails whenever there is a harsh wind blowing.
It is on the road to a better place, where you can walk each day, aiming at what you choose, rather than what is happening around you. Smile. Enjoy your day.
