There is one simple question that we all might benefit from. That question would be, “Is that really true?”. I am not leaning on the probable fake news sources. This is about all of us, our friends, our social groups, and anyone else whose well meaning accuracy we take for granted. A really great question can be like a hot knife cutting new openings in life. Of course this is when the answers are taken in honestly and examined for how it applies to our lives.
Questioning is powerful. A really great question can uncover a blind spot. Life lived without questioning can be like walking on thin ice and not knowing it, or going the wrong direction from what you want.
What you don’t know can’t hurt you, right? Wrong.
“I can handle my drinking.” is a famous flawed phrase we can agree on. Believing something that is really false can lead to disaster. Certainly less than desired. You wouldn’t knowingly set out on a goal with false information would you?
I imagine anyone would rather know what would work out in a better way to be more successful.
It’s common to accept less than what is wanted as a fact of life. That is the explanation for what happened. Another explanation is that working with flaws in what we believe or with flawed advice will not produce a good result.
It is simpler just to keep whatever is believed and not question anything. “Is that really true?” might be an easy question to make life easier. It is hard to accept someone else’s offerings of information to test with the question when it is “advice” that is unwanted. That is a much harder moment to really test with the question.
We all move around in our lives, living inside of what we believe to be true. When we are struggling or have no doubts, it might be the right moment to ask, “Is that really true?”
