We must not become what we do not like in others. Insults and demeaning comments have become almost standard in our public forums. This is unacceptable. This especially should not be done by those who represent our government. A representative democracy such as ours thrives on different voices to make useful decisions. Vibrant debate is part of that process to hear different opinions. Those who demean and threaten others should be shamed of their bullying. Those who make falsehoods their normal means of speaking must be called out as corruptors of the public good. We must allow each other to speak offering valid debate. Otherwise we are trying to bully and silence dissent. We must guide and nurture our country into a condition that we want to pass on for our children.
We elect our governing officials as our representatives. What are they elected to do as their job? Certainly to insure the safety and prosperity of the citizens. Citizens by definition are the reason a country is brought into existence. A policy that promotes a strong business environment that is more and more profitable when the people working there can’t have a decent lifestyle does not serve the citizens. The policy of keeping wages at a minimum serves the company, and no one else except the chief officers, whose job it is to make the company strong and profitable, responsible only to shareholders. Our country will be a place of needy people full of strong, profitable companies. Our elected officials should be ones who have policies for all citizens. Prosperity is when we the citizens have prosperity. Watch out for someone who tells you that if a company is prosperous, we will be too. We will be the fleas on the elephant.
