Everyday life is a practice of weaving among our thoughts, feelings and accomplishments while trying to avoid pain and misfortune. While we do this, there is a huge population standing mute alongside us as we go about our day, worrying about our schedules. This huge population vastly outnumber us and are bigger than us. There are more of them than there are stars in the sky.
Trees. They supply us with food, shelter, and protection from the heat of the sun while we are outside. They mark the history of rain and droughts, and are the oldest living beings on the planet.
They grow without any assistance, or may be planted to add delight and comfort to our surroundings. If you enjoy fruit, it probably is from a tree. Do you like coffee? Enjoy the shade of a grand tree on a hot day? They are the source of the material we use to build most of our houses. They purify the air of our home, earth.
Okay, by now you are wondering, why pay attention to these things we know so well already? It is easy to go about everyday life not seeing much around us, noticing many things that are temporary and mean almost nothing to our lives. What would you revere? Appreciating what is central to our very existence is a true value for our lives, physical and emotional.
