We work like crazy to get more money. More than is needed for a comfortable life. We want the things we think will make us REALLY happy. I know that a fair percentage of the U.S. population works more than one job just to try to keep up with the basics. I wish them a better chance at health security.
Just read that the U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVoss, has 10 yachts. Yes, ten. This was in the news since one of them was recently damaged. That is quite a few to be able to use very often. I guess they are in various places so wherever she goes, she will have one right there.
A large percentage of Americans work hard for other reasons. Authority in their work life, job advancement, and sadly maybe in lieu of a satisfying personal life. I would guess the “American Dream” is still chasing a lot of us, that is, more money equals more happiness.
The Dalai Lama has said that man sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recover his health. He is so anxious about the future that he doesn’t enjoy the present. Never thinking that someday he WILL die, he dies never having really lived.
So tell me, what is the point of living? A recent cartoon shows a rich man on his death bed exclaiming that he regrets not having bought more crap. Maybe we all can live more and strive less to climb the mountain of more. Be happy right where you are.
